Al-Ryada University hosts STEM school students and university students in the International Science Competition

Al-Ryada University of Science and Technology (RST) hosted the fourth edition of the International Scientific Competition in the fields of antennas and microwaves, under the patronage of Dr. Yehia Mabrouk, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, and Prof. Dr. Reda Hegazy, University President and former Minister of Education. The event was also attended by Prof. Dr. Ehab Said, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, the deans of the faculties, university leaders, and a number of experts and judges from Egyptian universities.

This year’s competition witnessed the participation of 366 projects and innovations submitted by university and school students from Egypt and abroad, including 55 projects from Egyptian and international universities from countries such as Kenya, India, Indonesia, the UAE, and Yemen. The remaining 311 projects were mostly presented by students from STEM schools.

Prof. Dr. Reda Hegazy, President of Al-Ryada University and former Minister of Education, emphasized that the university’s role goes beyond granting academic degrees. It aims to graduate generations capable of innovation and entrepreneurship. He noted that Al-Ryada University has established a dedicated Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship as part of an integrated research ecosystem consisting of six research centers. These centers work together to incubate student ideas and transform them into executable projects.

The University President added that the Board of Trustees places great importance on organizing scientific events and exhibitions that showcase students’ capabilities and provide them with opportunities to engage with local and international academic institutions. He also noted that the university actively participates in the activities of the global IEEE organization, particularly through its IEEE Student Chapter, which contributes to enhancing students’ technical skills and expanding their scientific horizons.

Dr. Yehia El-Helougy, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at Al-Ryada University, stated that the student exhibition accompanying the competition reflects a spirit of teamwork. He praised the students’ innovations and affirmed that some of them require real incubation to become successful models. He added: “We no longer live in an era where literacy is limited to reading and writing. We now need to address artificial intelligence illiteracy, as AI has become part of every aspect of our daily lives.”

Dr. El-Helougy also stated that Al-Ryada University welcomes all creative minds and STEM school students, and strives to turn the recommendations arising from scientific events into practical, implementable programs that support innovation and nurture promising minds. He also highlighted the institutional support the Faculty of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence receives from the university administration.

Dr. Yasser Madany, Professor at the Faculty of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at Al-Ryada University, noted that the competition witnessed unprecedented interest from both Egyptian and international participants. A total of 95 projects qualified for the final round after passing through three stages of judging.

He explained that the final stage of evaluation, carried out by expert judges, takes place within the student exhibition held alongside the competition, where the winning projects are selected. All qualified projects receive certificates of appreciation and the competition’s shield, while the top three university projects and top three school projects are honored.

He added that the competition covers 30 diverse scientific fields that reflect the latest trends in modern technology. Many projects focused on sustainability applications, which demonstrates an advanced awareness among students regarding environmental and developmental issues.

Dr. Madany expressed his gratitude for the institutional support provided by the Board of Trustees of Al-Ryada University of Science and Technology and for hosting this international event.
