Al-Ryada University for Science and Technology Organizes a Seminar on Leadership and Exam Management

As part of Al-Riyada University for Science and Technology’s commitment to fostering a culture of examinations and preparing professors and deans to understand the regulations governing the examination process, while also instilling modern leadership concepts, and under the patronage of Yahya Mabrouk Farag and Reda Hegazy, the university’s Faculty Development Center organized a seminar entitled “Leadership and Examination Management.” The seminar was presented by Mohamed El-Sherbiny as part of the Leadership and Governance in Higher Education Institutions program series, and was attended by Reda Hegazy and Ehab Saeed, deans of faculties, faculty members, and Hassan Ammar, the university’s Secretary-General.

At the beginning of the seminar, Reda Hegazy emphasized that implementing governance concepts in faculties directly contributes to improving institutional performance and raising the quality of the educational process. He pointed out that examinations represent the final outcome of the academic year, and therefore, the university administration is keen to provide a suitable environment for students and faculty members during the second semester examinations, while providing all the necessary facilities to ensure the smooth and efficient conduct of the examinations.

He further explained that developing academic performance begins with preparing university leaders capable of managing the examination process, possessing the vision, experience, and administrative competence necessary to define responsibilities and make appropriate decisions. He added that this contributes to conducting exams optimally and represents a fundamental step towards achieving institutional development and academic excellence at the university.

During his lecture, Mohamed El-Sherbiny reviewed the standards and guidelines aimed at unifying the efforts of colleges and university administrations to ensure that exams are conducted properly and in an orderly manner, thus safeguarding students’ interests and ensuring the sound management of examinations. He explained that the dean of each college is the primary supervisor of exams within the college, while the role of the vice dean is limited to facilitating the daily tasks related to the examination process.

The vice president also addressed the importance of clearly defining responsibilities among all those involved in the examination process to avoid overlapping jurisdictions and ensure that each official fulfills their role to the fullest extent. He emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline within examination committees and clearly defining and disseminating valid excuses, such as medical reasons, social circumstances, and general emergencies. He also stressed the importance of the course instructor being present during exams to answer students’ inquiries and ensure there are no complaints regarding the exam questions.

He concluded by emphasizing that the college’s examination committee is responsible for reviewing the final results and conducting the final verification process after the completion of the correction procedures and recording of grades, and before announcing the results to the students.
